Education

I would like to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Michael Glenn, and my professional background revolves around information technology (IT). I began my experience in high school, when I took computer systems and Java scripting classes. These fundamental classes encouraged me to pursue a career in IT.

After graduating high school, I made an informed decision to attend ITT Technical Institute in order to get professional experience and expand my knowledge of computer network systems. While enrolled, I took classes in Linux, Microsoft Network Operating Systems, Database Development, Network Application and Service Integration, Network Application Services and Security, Network Standards and Protocols, Structured Cabling, and Computer Programming.I was awarded an Information Technology/Computer Network System Associate of Applied Science Degree.

Once I graduated it took a few years to jump start my professional IT career.

Early Professional Experience

My first IT employment was on a contract with Virginia Beach City Public Schools, as an IT Technical Specialist. This assignment included imaging over 19,000 laptops and 1,500 desktop for all of the school in the city of Virginia Beach. To maintain security, I modified the BIOS to block unauthorized access to the BIOS setup utility. My responsibilities included packaging and tracking all assets from receipt to delivery to the appropriate school. This engagement lasted a year, and just that fast I was back on the market.

While my career was on hold because I couldn't find work in the IT field, I tried my hand as a debt collector. While working collections I helped individual customers create affordable payment plans to eliminate their debt. I maintained my professionalism and customer service on each call. I utilized my attention to detail, and listened for hardship cues to build excellent rapport with customer.I was tasked with abiding by the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act (FDCPA) on each and every call. Although I was thriving as a debt collector I was thirsty to jump back into my passion IT. To improve my prospects of landing a relevant position in IT, I studied and earned my CompTIA Security + CE certification. I uploaded my new resume on to multiple jobs sites. Off to the races, my IT career acquired a second wind.

DoD Experience

I started with the DoD as a Tier I Technical Specialist at the NMCI support desk. This was an interesting job that required me to troubleshoot software, hardware, internet issues, Outlook accounts, printers, and Microsoft Windows profiles. This was a 24-hour helpdesk with a fast-paced workplace. I held this role for two years before getting promoted to Service Request Management (SRM) agent. This function entailed fulfilling requests from Customer Technical Representatives (CTR). The majority of my day consisted of relocating customer accounts from one server to the nearest server based on duty location. I was also responsible for increasing mailbox space, creating functional mailboxes, transferring user mailboxes to the proper server, and disabling user accounts. I remained at the NMCI for four years.

Today, I am employed as a Journeyman Project Analyst on a NAVAIR contract. I am currently in charge of analyzing and re-engineering several NAVAIR legacy applications. In an effort to re-engineer, I hold two one-and-a-half-hour workshops with stakeholders twice per week. IDEF0 diagrams, Requirement Traceability Matrixes (RTMs), business process diagrams, and functional application process flows were all developed during these sessions. These applications are currently being migrated to the Enterprise Cloud. This role requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and organization.
